Nikiski Community Park

The Nikiski Community Community Council applied for and was granted several Legislative grant for the purpose of creating a Cook Inlet Viewing and Beach Access community park.  The Council selected the Chevron-owned property north of Hedberg Road located across from the old Lighthouse Motel on the Kenai Spur Highway approximately 1/2-mile south of the Nikiski Recreation Community Center and pool.  The Council worked really hard and was successful in negotiating a purchase price for the 113-acre parcel and got property title on August 30, 2016.  This property extends from the Kenai Spur Highway to the bluff, approximately 1-mile east to west and 0.3 miles north to south, and included a 13-acre lake.  In late 2017 approximately 2.5-miles of walking trails were installed for traversing the property as shown in the following map.  Parking areas were completed in July 2018 and the Council is busy installing trail signage and resting benches along the trails.   We are really excited to open the park to the community with more improvements to come as we find the money and resources for them.
